Create your own project on Scratch, showcasing your creativity and technical skills while raising awareness about environmental issues. Judging Criteria

TOPIC: Save the Planet

Top 5 projects for each category will be chosen by the GDC team

The winners will be decided by the judges

Criteria analyzed by the judges to establish the final score:

  • between 1.00 to 5.00 points for BEST PROJECT of the year competition, the scores will be between 3-5 points

  • integration/presence of the challenge/competition theme/topic/subject

  • logic of the project/scenario/story

  • animation/graphics/music/sounds

  • script/code/errors

  • functionality of the project/menus/controls/sprites

  • general impression of the project

Judging Lines:

  • Scenario/Story and Challenge/Topic/Theme:

    • Judges will appreciate the scenario or story of the project. An original scenario or story will be most appreciated. Additionally, the complexity and fluency of the scenario will be a plus.

    • Competitors must respect the topic, challenge, or theme of the contest. A good integration of the challenge into your story will be a plus.

    • If the contest topic, challenge, or theme is not present in the project at all, the contestant will be disqualified or will receive a final score of 1 point.

  • Animation:

    • Judges will appreciate animated sprites and backgrounds. Copyrighted sprites, backgrounds, and effects may be used if the user has the license to use them. Additionally, fluency of movements, smooth background scrolling, etc., will be a plus.

    • Sounds and thematic music will also be appreciated.

  • Script/Code:

    • Judges will appreciate simplicity in coding and well-commented scripts. Original scripts and algorithms will be a plus. Code must be well-commented. Games must have detailed instructions defined in-game.

    • The use of advanced coding techniques in Scratch will be a plus (e.g., variables, lists, defined blocks, advanced mathematical formulas, etc.).

Rules:

  • Originality: Projects must be entirely original, created solely by the contestant. No copied or remixed projects, including engines, tutorials, or books, are allowed.

  • New Work: Projects must be created from scratch starting the first day of the competition. No old or previously created projects.

  • Relevance: Ensure your project aligns with the contest topic. Irrelevant projects may be disqualified or score lower.

  • Advanced Coding: Use advanced code elements (variables, custom blocks, lists) to earn more points.

  • Menus and Instructions: Include starting and help menus for games, detailing controls and objectives.

  • Sound and Graphics: Use good sounds, music, and graphics.

  • Single Player: No two-player projects allowed.

  • Thoroughness: Take your time to perfect your project before submission. Speed is not rewarded.

  • Individual Work: Contests are individual; no team projects.

  • Tie Resolution: In case of a tie, judges will score based on overall impression.

  • Platform: Projects must be created and shared on Scratch (https://scratch.mit.edu).

  • Deadlines: Respect submission deadlines to avoid disqualification.

  • Language: International contest entries must be in English.

  • Post-Deadline Edits: No changes to the project are allowed after the submission deadline.
